my first update!

um.. i forgot about this, but here goes nothing!

no excuses, but it’s been hard getting myself to complete my first entry. it seems like even on my own terms, i’m afraid of sounding too cringe or cliché. but i guess that’s exactly why i want to do this… to practice not caring about others and just doing things for myself. so here’s a lot of half-developed thoughts, sometimes spaced apart by weeks. hope you enjoy the read :3

what i wrote about a month ago:

many people say that the summer is one of the most important parts of a cs student’s university life; the time where they can work on projects and try their best to get past competition.

thoughts like “what have i been doing?”, “what have others been up to?” plague our minds like a collective fomo on growth. in between all of it, is time to genuinely do what you like. work on things you find interesting, watch movies with your family, grab lunch with friends. this past month or so, i’ve been trying to find my balance throughout it all. this is what i’ve been up to.

‘work hard and play hard’ and whatnot is pretty easy to say, but requires a lot of meticulous planning that only seems to come through when there’s not enough time left. my google calendar is not going to know what hit it once this term starts.

currently:

i’m back in university and my google calendar definitely doesn’t know what hit it. i’ve been overloading with 7 courses this semester instead of 5, with a few reasons including weirdly transferred transfer credits, etc., etc., and so time-management has been at it’s absolute peak! (or at least i’ve been trying to get it to be)

the most interesting course to me has been a computer science course where i’ve been learning how to use the linux terminal! not even sure what the right name to call it is… i’ve heard so many different words being thrown around: bash scripting, shell commands, unix commands, etc., but i’ve been enjoying learning it a lot, especially the hands-on lab sessions! it feels really cool doing basic scripting and getting the result you want back out of it. probably gets me to be more efficient as well. i’ve also been thinking about getting my laptop to have a dual boot with windows + linux because of how lightweight and efficient linux is. using it on the lab computers also feels super cool.

other things i’ve been trying to do is attend as many events i can, and really push myself out there with clubs and unions. i’m a part of the game maker’s union here at tmu and it’s been super cool so far. also went to a networking night (for chemistry majors, don’t ask me why i attended :P) and it ended up being really fun. i got to meet and interact with some phd students among other people. attended a cheese event where i got to taste 4 different types of cheeses and enjoy them while answering a kahoot on cheese trivia! etc., etc.. i think pushing myself out there in this sense lets me meet more people and make more friends!

anyhow, i won’t delay posting this any longer than i already have. hope you liked the first edition of my “newsletter”!
